| SPRING IS ON THE WAY!... |
Finally, the snow is all melted and the sun is shining signaling that spring is on the way! This means we are getting ready for lots of outside activities, including those in our farm program.
First, we are very happy to have gotten enough money for a new stock trailer! Most of the
funds came from the Oklahoma Auxiliary and we are so very thankful for all their efforts to raise the
money for us. I know Sandy and Marie worked very hard bugging people and they had several others
helping them to secure all the funds we needed and they did a great job. I want you all to know
I have gone out several times to look at stock trailers and to price them. I want to get the one that is
the most functional for us and that is the best value for the price. I have been to Ark City, Kansas;
Morrison, Oklahoma; Shawnee; and here in Ponca City. We want to be good stewards of the money
that you all raised. I plan to have the trailer purchased by Children and Youth Weekend in April.
After we get the trailer, we can buy a few cows, or calves if they are a better buy and let them
start making money for us and let them start teaching our kids (and our staff) lessons on being stubborn.
Cattle are very good at this!
We also need to get the garden planted. I usually try to have my garden tilled in January and
here we are in March! It has just been too wet to do any dirt work at all. Today, as I write this, the
sun has finally come out and the ground is drying. I hope to try and till this weekend if the weather
holds.
The garden was a great asset to the kids last year. Our kids learned so much about where
different vegetables come from and how they grow. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Longenbaugh for the
donation of the almost new Troybilt tiller. We will hopefully get the garden tilled and be able to
plant the seeds in the next few weeks. I hope it is up by the time you all come visit for Children and
Youth Weekend!
